i heard about it but still dont know what mel said that provoked a contraversy. does anybody know the whole story? please provide references or links if you can.

I don't think he said anything against Semis. He did say some things about Jews that were a little rude.
The exact quote is: "F---ing Jews! Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." An odd thing to say. And while people have said, "It was the liquor talking"; I know I don't get racist or anti-semitic when I get drunk. I might say, "I love you" too much, but I've never gone on a conspiratorial rant about a particular race of people. When you pair that with the seemingly anti-Jewish bent of "The Passion", you got a guy that's going to have to fight off an anti-semitic image.
You play, you pay. I refuse to feel sorry for celebrities when they commit a crime and make asses of themselves. If they want my money to make movies, then they have to put up with the crap that comes along with it. If he made $60,000 a year - I'd say leave him alone. Since he makes like $20,000,000 a year, then deal with the contraversy and take it like a man.

Who cares? Its a media story, Mel was in films, so many know the name, hes an every-day bigot, not worth the time to care about. There are many of those around.
Media loves a story about well-known names. Most of us just hope he dissolves into obscurity like he deserves.
