When I did ask that question and did my research, a simple route is as follows:
1. Find a profession that you love, are trained for and that pays well so that you can set some money aside after living expenses, contingency backup savings.
2. Find an area of expertise that you can sustain on the investment front, be it stocks, real estate or your own business.
3. Invest every month to the fullest extent possible.
It works.

Open to the idea of working from home for additional streams of income that you can create for yourself? Check out home-based businesses on line. There are many good ones out there. write down on paper how much money you want to have and the date you want to have it by. read it to yourself when you wake and before you sleep. imagine yourself having that money and believe yourself with it.
you need to find an occupation or a job to help you get this money. however, money can come through many other ways too...lottery, winning contests, etc. but you need to occupy your time and mind with something worthwhile to keep you busy and make you successful.
this is not a joke, it actually works. check out the book titled 'think and grow rich'. sorry forgot the author.

I think you should focus on living with what you can afford. There's a thousand biographies about millionaires and the common features are: Luck and Hard Work.
