What gallon do you mean? A US gallon is a different volume to a UK gallon...

2006-08-21 00:04:01 · answer #1 · answered by Stephan B 5 · 0 0

All this conversion to metric overlooks the simple fact that a UK gallon of pure water weighs EXACTLY 10 pounds, that was how the pound weight was defined, so 20 UK gallons would be 200 pounds. Of course if you need an answer in kg then you get into fractions (200 lb = 90.7185kg). Who says the old imperial system didn't have is uses and simplicity?

I will answer the best I can, sorry for my bad english.

you are wrong in ur interpretation,

a density is the rapport of the mass per volum divided by the mass per volum of water.

sor if water is 1000 kg/m3 divided by 1000kg/m3 the result is 1 (and no unit after1). this is called the density.

here more density
water=1
fuel=0.7
steel=8

and here some volumic mass

water:1000kg/cubic meter
fuel:700kg/cubic meter
steel 8000kg (8t)/cubic meter

see, there is no units after the numbers for density....density is different of mass volumic.

density is a rapport with water for solid, and a rapport with air for the gaz.

to answer to ur question
the mass volumic of water is 1000kg/cubic meter..
as 1 gallon is around 3.8 liter, it weights around 3.8kg.(US gallon)

Density of water given is=1.0 g/ml
= 1.0 kg/litre
Now 1 us gallon = 3.7853 litre and 1 litre weighing 1 kg,1 us gallon will be 3.7853 kg.
Now 1 imp. gallon = 4.5461 litre and 1 litre weighing 1 kg,1 imp. gallon will be 4.5461 kg.

The density of water varies according to temperature the density of which you speak is only at cold temps maybe 3 or 4 above freezing I would guess abour 8.2 or 8.3 pounds per gallon for PURE water.

1 US gallon = 3.7854118 liters so 3.7854118 Kg

if 1 US gallon=3.7853118,
According to m=vd
(m=mass,
v=volume,
d=density)
m=3.7854118*1000*0.001 kg
=3.7854118
but, weight is mg
then,
mg=37.854118N
