not really applicable for everyone, i have some friends who just enjoyed travelling overseas to go for amusement park and comes back comparing things like which country's roller coaster is the best. They don't care a hood about the scenery, the customs, tradition, living and lifestyles of the people there. Another group just fly over to shop for branded goods and knows the price of this brand selling in one country compared to the others. Wondering anyone would label these small group knowledgeable, but I would think most people do learn things when they travelled often, only a minority of them don't.

Sure, traveling would make you well versed on those areas. You can learn languages and cultures first hand. Traveling also lets you take look at other countries business practices. After a few years of college I thought I could travel the world and pour drinks at ocean side bars. Now I want to teach English in Japan and I need to finish school. Haha, I learned a lot pouring Mai Tai's in Hawaii.. I learned I need a degree...

In the past, yes. Today, we can get all information of any country at our finger tips, so you don't have to travel to know the countries better. But travel does open up your eyes, experience different culture and life, it will make you a more complete person.

Yes, I believe so. Traveling opens your eyes to other cultures and lets you experience them first-hand,. Whether it makes you a better person or not is up to the individual.
Traveling should make a person more tolerant of other cultures and, for some, may make one more racist or bigoted than he was previously.
