Check the case fans first (you should find one on the power supply near the power cord and another one or two somewhere else at the back of the case. It could be as simple a thing as a cable which has been misplaced, in which case just move it out of the way, or even a loose case if it wasn't put back together correctly. Otherwise it's likely to be a bearing going and the fan will need replacing. That's a relatively quick, simple and cheap job.

If those aren't the problem, then there is also a fan on the CPU itself. It's smallish, so isn't very likely to be the source of the noise, but if it is, you should have the fan replaced by a professional. The machine is still under warranty, so take it back where you got it.

It most certainly is the CPU fan, but it's not misaligned or got blades brushing off the casing as so many are telling you.

Open the case and check for any overhanging cables above the fan. What is happening is you're getting the "moped" sound as the cable brushes off the fan. I used to do similar stuff to my push-bike as a kid (wedge a bit cardboard against the back wheel.)

I'd check this asap as the last thing you need is a cable getting frayed and exposing wires, or worse. Simple to fix - just tuck them out the way of the fan.

However, the computer is under warranty (or should be considering it was new in Feb) so get it sorted under the terms of your warranty if unsure about opening it up yourself.

Hope this helps.

This sounds like a hard drive rattle. Check the hard drive. Does the system seem to slow down when it's noisy?

If so, try this: http://www.cyberwalker.com/columns/nov01/081101.html

Defrag the virtual memory and then turn it back on after a restart. If it's the drive it'll make different noises this time!

Its most probably the combination of a bad intake Fan,and a ricketty cabin. The sides of the cabin can make a whole lot of noise if the fan is vibrating heavily.Check both the fan and the cabin.make sure its screwed up tightly.

Sometimes cleaning & lubricating the fan will keep it going for a bit longer, best sort it out before you need a whole new PC. Try and make sure there isn't excessive dirt/dust around the PC which could shorten the life of the fan.

There's not much in a computer that has "moving" parts...so I'd open up the case (tower) and look for whats making the noise...it will be...
1. Fan(s)...most likely.
2. Hard drive(s)...unlikely
3. DVD/CD drives..also unlikely.

First off, I assume the PC is working nicely aside from the noise, off course.

Most common source of noise is a faulty cpu fan.
Another is a faulty PSU fan.
One other source is a loose component screw. This happened to me once. the psu screw loosened and the psu casing vibrated against the mainframe casing.

Sounds like a bad fan.

Sounds like your fan is broken, turn it off and open the case. Check to see that the CPU fan isn't clogged with dust and that the blades are sound.

It sounds like the fan has a bad bearing.
