so should car manufacturers and oil companies pay for road construction?

There used to be no cars and we had roads. We need roads with our without gas-powered cars.

And if oil companies paid for those things, they'd just up the price of gas.

In the United States, a lot of the road construction is financed by a tax on gasoline and diesel fuel.

No, trucks use roads too, and roads existed before cars did.

We all use the roads, it would be unfair to make one industry pay for them.

there may be other vehicles that run by petrol or diesel
the road can be used by bicycle users

the money is collected back on toll
