My mom, is a teacher. She said that the school, hired, 4 black teachers, that had a lower recomendation, than 4 white women. Just because, they were black.

My dad, who is a Fire Marshall, said that he has a black guy, at station 3, that scored 14 pts lower on the Entrance Exam, than this white guy..... and they had no choice, but to take the Black guy.

WHY IS THIS ????

because,if we do not hire black people,we are called racist,even tho they do not qualify for the job

Affirmative action... that's what some states have so that a fair and representative selection is made for employment. In other words, if two whites and one Asian and one black go for an interview, and the company already has too many whites that work there... they have no choice but to hire one of the other two races, regardless of their qualifications.

The gripe is about affirmative action. Personally I think affirmative action is an action with good intentions, but poor execution. Assuming that your examples are correct, this would explain this. However, look at your own prejudices. Teachers = women and Firefighters = Men. Something to think about.

Equal opportunity...maybe there was a push by those in power to hire visible minorities.

Possibly they did better on the interview.

At the end of the day, the best person should be hired for a job, regardless of sex, colour or creed.

Same reason Bush gets into Harvard Graduate Business school with a 1.8 GPA from Yale!

I know Bush did that, but yours sounds more anecdotal because they don't release personal employment information!

Because there might be only whites working
on those jobs if they didn't. Some people don't
test well, but they know the job.
