pickles and baking soda without exploding?

If I had to guess, I suspect these two foods were chosen because of the fact that one contains a weak acid (acetic) and a weak base (Sodium bicarbonate) that when combined creates carbon dioxide gas. In a purely theoretical sense, gas forming in your stomach could lead to an "explosion" though much more likely you would simply eructate.
Burp, that is.

haha You should specify dill pickles if you're looking for the chemical reaction with vinegar as a consequence. Yes you can eat it and expect intense gas and bloating.

I imagine you could, but it would not taste very good, and you would have really bad gas.
