Here's another vote for Epson. It was always "Epson printers and Canon scanners." I don't know what's been going on with scanners lately, but Epson is still the top choice for printers. All of their R models are great for photos. I personally use their cheapo R220 ($100). With glossy photographic paper and a 10 MP camera, the image quality is good enough to frame full page landscapes and press your nose to the glass. With a 3.2 MP camera, you don't have quite enough resolution for that, but with portraits you usually view the picture from a foot or two away - full page prints should still look great. If you want smaller prints, put 2 or 4 on a page and use a cutting board trimmer. Or put 2 panoramas on a page, or a few dozen passport pictures... whatever you need. I can see the point of those picture printers that only take 5x7 inch sheets, but I find that format too limiting. To keep costs down, you can consider no-name brand photo paper and no-name brand ink cartridges. I don't but they're 90% as good at 20% the price. (All printer manufacturers subsidize their printers and make a killing on the official cartridges.) Also, the R220 uses several cartridges that can be replaced individually. Not all printers do, and it sucks to replace an all-in-one cartridge just because you're out of magenta. Even so, home printing is pretty expensive. For normal stuff, it's still easier and cheaper to upload / drop off your memory card.

I prefer Canon. I have the i9900. Prints up to 13x19 prints, has eight color tanks and is very speedy. Print quality is excellent.
Ink costs about $11 per tank. You only buy what is empty, no need throwing away ink as you do on printers with tri-color cartridges.
Was at Wal-Mart the other day just looking at printers. HP printer was $58. Cost of color and black cartridges was $63.
Inexpensive printer but they make their profit on ink.
www.steves-digicams.com has reviews on printers as well as cameras. Good web site for info. Do a little research, look at some prints and go with which ever your feel is best!

I used to sell printers at an office supply store, and bang for buck, Canon printers were always the best. I've owned one for 1.5 years. The ink cartriges are all individual, so that if you run out of magenta ink, that's the only one that you have to change. Each cartridge lasts ungodly long, and they only cost 10-15 bux each. Print quality is indistinguishable from a store-processed photo.

Epson are good, as has been mentioned. It is the cost of feeding the printer in cartridges that is the killer. However, I have an Epson320, steady printer, was £130.00 or about. Teamed up with a "Continuous Ink Supply" for £60.00, great. The ink supply came with 1200 ml of ink, equivalent to 92 cartridges (£6.50 X 92= £598.00) less the cost of the Continuous Ink Supply is £530.00.... PROFIT!!! or, the cost of 4 printers. My refill ink is £20.00 for 600 ml....or £00.40 per cartridge.Somewhat cheaper... By the way, the printer gives excellent results.

Epson have the market cornered right now on photo printing. They feature higher quality ink cartridges and more functions than their competeitors. However you do have an integrated print head so you are going to want to be using the printer with some frequency or the print head will dry out.
printing pictures at home is never econmical. You are generally looking at about $0.20-0.50, or around double the prince of taking your digital images to a developement kiosk.

A word of advise BEFORE you buy ANY printer find out how much replacement ink costs!!! There is a big difference between models and some will put you in the poor house!! ( my HP cost $70 to refill , my Canon costs $28 for 2 black and one color tank, and they have super support when mine jammed there was a new one on my door step in 2 days!)

Epson.
They are the best I've found on the market. Ink refills are a bit pricey for my model, but you can buy the refill kits and do it yourself !
