First of all, there wouldn't be that many here, since they were brought here against their will. Other than that, I can not say since I am not one and, therefore, can not speak for them.

a lot of American... history, exploration, inventions would not have been made if African Americans were not enslaved. they did not ask to come to America this is true.. many were sold by rival tribes and captured like animals. I don't think there would be much of a change in the way African Americans would act if they remained in Africa. for the simple fact that European countries soon invaded African and started "carving the magnificent African cake" making territories and what not and those countries when they were threw just left African destitute without a way to continue as its on continent. I have been to south Africa/Botswana/Zambia quite a few times and I have heard some Africans there say that African Americans are better off in American than Africans are in Africa.. whether or not this is true is solely a matter of opinion. perhaps if it is really bothering you, you can look into the African Americans who left the united states and settled Liberia in the 1890s.

They would have been slaves to other Africans and been sacrificed when their masters died, or sold. Or they would have been sold along that 4000+ yr old slave route (and still operational) to the Arabs. Children’s books on slavery say 'european kidnapper' because they hide the fact that (even in the writings of Ramses II!) people were the main export of africa. It has tremendous mineral wealth but that is a modern need. So if you are a black American your ancestors were either enslaving the next tribe over or lost the fight and were being enslaved by them - look how the Zulus rode to power.
Europeans were the only free people. The first slavers who started that Africa Americas route were Arab merchants on the heel of Columbus based on their sugar plantations back home - they just brought some over. That’s why Latin America had slavery hundreds of years before north America. I wont go into USA because the question about blacks themselves - more would be dead, many more impoverished and a lot now would be Muslim rather than Christian. Anyone thank a European lately for setting the world free? - Given how every other society refused to value individual or civil liberties and had slavery - and some persist to this day? Most people on this earth should thank god for European imperialism, because its the only reason they’re alive. Full-blooded American Indians need not. Unless you were one of the tribes being killed in the Iroquois advance, then you do i guess. A lot of American blacks still suffer from the effects of that uprooting and poverty - that’s why we have social promotions. However, Blacks are still under represented in the upper class. They are over represented in the middle class, and under represented in the poor as well. Immigration may change those #’s again. Social promotion is intended to fix American slavery as a shameful part of our past and great wrongs done – because were supposed to be the land of the free. Liberia was another attempt to fix that. Again, everywhere else had slaver and Europe had kings – the point is its wrong because were Americans, even if the rest of the world was doing it.
But 'attitude' is probably not hereditary (and certainly social history isn’t!) as you seem to be implying, but rather a result of ignorance. Black people who are ignorant like to imagine themselves as 'beautiful African queens' or ‘African kings surrounded by wealth.’ (what wealth?) Then 'stolen' by Europeans. They never imagine that for every African tribe there was a chief or king - and everyone else under his foot. That’s the point of the USA - only one man can be king – and that’s not freedom; otherwise we would have stayed under Britain. But Africans also had traditional slaves as well as kings, made the way all slaves are made in the world, children of slaves or the conquered - and that’s who American blacks are descended from. And all black slaves in the ME and everywhere - up until modern times where kidnapping of woman and children of many races is on the rise. I suppose a lot of blacks also like to think they were Egyptians. They need to read the actual writings of the Egyptians and its history. Again, its the attitude of ignorance, born of poverty, not because they’re black. By the way Egypt had plenty of slaves for over 3000 yrs. Its odd the way people perceive history isn’t it? Well, would they have been better off? Go to Africa and see, or ask the people in Sudan.

Why is self-respect viewed as ego and arrogance as if we are not entitled to it. That's where the problem begins, no point talking about what could have been, just what is. Stop the labelling or label yourself due to the serial killers, war-mongering,insider-trading etc, etc. You see this could get real ugly. Shut your mouth and open your mind maybe then you'll learn something.

Yes, it is partly because of our past, and greatly because of our present. We still deal with the oppresion of black people, they (meaning the powers that be) just wrapped it up in a different package.
