It's called evolution of language. When was the last time you used the word gay to mean happy/content?

Now, when was the last time you used the word gay as a synonym of bad or worthless (as in "That's so gay!")?

Get over it.

We didn't do anything to the word. It remains the same... GAY.

It was first used by straight people as a "put-down" for homosexuals, so you have straight people to thank, go and give them the grief.

Besides, how is it possible to "ruin" a word? Did homosexuals change the spelling?

If you don't like homosexuals, you need to come up with a better reason than "ruining" the English Language. We have been accused of much worse and your silly attempt at expressing your homophobia has only exposed your ignorance.

The word GAY was used as a derogatory term toward homosexual men arounf Oscar Wilde's time period.

The gay community absorbed it and empowered it, much in the same way that the Quakers did with their name.

If you have an issue with the word GAY meaning homosexual, I suggest that you hop in a time machine so you can go back and tell the heterosexuals not to use the word as a derogatory tem in the first place.

The English language always undergoes changes. There are new words added every year, and other words take on subtler shades of meaning.

Having said that, I think that "hate-spewing bigot" still would apply towards you, no? Those meanings haven't changed from "a closed-minded ignorant person who tries to gratify herself at the discriminatory expense of others."

Yes, we have taken the word "gay" from you.

We've also taken the Rainbow, the color Pink and the shape of the Triangle.

We've taken the state of Massachusetts.

We've taken the cities of West Hollywood and San Francisco.

and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

No. sorry, that's not true. The word was used as a disparaging slang remark toward homosexuals to begin with, later it was reclaimed and used in common usage to identify homosexuals in a non-disparaging manner.
