They have won 2 World Cups but yet the last 4 World Cups they only qualified in 2002 and only made it to the first round.

I enjoy them a lot. They have a good and lasting history in the WC and are a football mad nation, just tiny. They had a lot of mixed and misfortune leading to WC06 with injuries, changes in coaching staff and I think maybe 1 or 2 suspensions of their top players. They are very entertaining to watch. I hope we get to see them at this level again. They are in an extremely strong group with Brazil, Argentina etc, so at least they will have good and strong competition to urge them back to form and maybe regain a spot for Sth Africa. Good Luck to them in their quest for 2010.

yes they did win two world cups as that time their team is strong
they have a weak team now , only good players are zalayeta Forlan , Chenvanton & Recoba
they are in thre south american zone which has only 4 places
and the fifth goes in the playoff with the oceania zone
as all the uruguayan players were out of form this world cup except for diego forlan , they managed a fifth place but the almighty aussies holded on to bag the last place in the world cup finals
as the population is less in the country and a fading love for
football as no prizes for a long time has been the reason for the decrese in the craze for football there
and as soon as there is some reliable midfielder and defenders in the national team , uruguay will be back

The Uraguayan seems to be a team with great potential. Teams internationally are becoming stronger and stronger , this is evident in the fact that you have teams qualifying that have never qualified before. I think realistically they have a chance like any other team. Who thought Brazil would go out that early in the 2006 world cup?

yes, they won 2 wc, in 1930 and 1950. and i want u to think about these years: in lots of countries football was a hobby and newly growing. only south american countries and england, germany, italy was playing realy football in the world. now football is a great industry as u know. USA, Japan, Korea, Australia and the others give more importance for it. in my opinion, a good national team depends on the population, crowded countries can have more football stars. i think China is in a good way of preparation and after 20 years they would win all the wcups. what would Uruguay do in this industry with only 3,4 million citizen?
And i have to add: is a football team have to be succesfull everytime? where was the 2004 European Cup Winner Greece for example?

i think they're a good team..it's such a pity that uruguay is in south america..it's really a tough competition there in terms of qualifying to the world cup finals..if uruguay is in asia maybe they can make it to most of the world cup finals..hehe..also i think luck also plays a role in this..remember their qualifying game against australia?? i felt pity for them..they were good..if australia can make it to the round of 16 this year i think they can too if they were there..but unfortunately luck was not on their side again this year..

For me personally... thats a loaded question!!!!
They had potential... Anyone from Australia can tell you that. They resorted to a few dirty tactics when the Socceross had to play them in the WC qualifiers in 2001 and 2005. They had an aging team in 2005 and Australia was by far the better team. I really didn't like it when players like Recoba went to the media and proclaimed it was "they're divine right" to be in the WC. They're too arrogant for my liking!!

They might never win it again. There are way to many counties participating nowadays and qualifying is not easy.
