I like the original because Gene Wilder really looks like Willy Wonka, but for some reason I like the remake better because I love Johnny Depp and it made me laugh hilariously.

The newer one is better. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp do an excellent job at staying truer to the book. Lets face it people, Willy Wonka is not all sunshine and rainbows. I like the fact that they made him a little darker then the original and they gave more backstory to who Willy Wonka really is. Don't get be wrong I like the original too, but I think they did an awesome job on the newer one.

I really think that people are going with the original for the reason that it is the original and it's something that we automatically see in our minds eye when someone says Willy Wonka. We see Gene Wilder and a trippy boat ride. But I am quickly seeing Johnny Depps version of Wonka, which I think is much better.

I like the newer version, not just because it has Johnny Depp in it but because it stays truer to the book. I had read the book before I saw the original and I really didn't like Gene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka. Johnny Depp does a much better job with portraying the Willy Wonka from the book. He remains true to Dahl's character while adding a bit of his own personality to it.

I think everyone is saying the original for nostalgic reasons. I saw the Gene Wilder version when I was in the fourth grade, and just saw the new one a few months ago.
I have to say that the new one was better. I liked the fact that it told Willy Wonka's backstory and I liked Depp's performance. I think making Willy Wonka dark and weird was better than Gene Wilder's goofy and dancy version.

The version with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, especially the scene on the trippy boat ride.

The first one

The BOOK. I saw the first movie when I was a kid and I still think it's retarded. At least the Tim Burton version tried to stay much closer to the original story.
