A Honda Prelude, Civic or Accord that was made between the late 80's and early 90's. Any Toyota would be a good choice as well. Just make sure to take a prospective purchase to a mechanic first to make sure it is not a lemon.

Get an Auto Trader Book, for your region, but best bet is to go with a Southern Car, with little rust as possible. Also use Yahoo Auto finder.

Toyota and Honda, will be very old at that price, best bet a Chevy Lumina, ugly but very Reliable-

Go to your local auto auction.....These guys will auction off cars and you can preview them. The ones local to me have a warranty on the that says if you pay over 500 bucks for it and it breaks down in 30 days or less bring it back and get another. you can't beat that. or go to a used car lot that is reputable in your area. tell them you have limited cash and they do have some that aren't the prettiest but they run and heck with 2K down you could finance another 3 and have a nice car from them. car dealers and CarMax don't sell anything for less than 10K so go to the little guy.

Maybe a '95ish Neon.

you may be able to find a newer cart for $2000, but it's going to have A LOT of miles on it

Any make and year that still runs. Don't plan on getting much for that price.
