Burning oil or engine problems? My son even has the extended warranty and it is up for debate, between Mazda and the extended Insurance Co.. No one wants to take responsibilty for engine failure. It's been at the dealership since June 28th.

Wow, you are all so uninformed with the exception of the guy who knows how good the duratec is.

Yes, the 6 loses oil. One quart per 3000 miles is average. Any more than this is likely caused by a faulty PCV valve. Once the duratec suffers oil starvation anywhere for even a fraction of a second you have a spun bearing, and need a new engine.

I highly highly recommend doing some reseach on www.mazda6club.com. However, please do NOT direct Mazda to this website, they send employees to troll and cause problems for the members when bring their vehicles in for warranty work because of some of their modifications (that very rarely cause any of the problems they see, and shouldn't void the warranty).

Another, much less fluff and more info site is www.mazda6tech.com. It goes straight to the point about things.

Here are a few good threads to get your feet wet on this issue:

How many miles are on the car? Do you have all of your records for oil changes? Even if you did yourself you have to save the receipts. If you are still warrantied by Mazda, do not hesitate to call corporate, they are great at resolving problems with their customers. Good luck.

I had a 2005 Mazda 6 with the 3.0L in it.... I always ran premium and never had a problem... all interstate miles, i had 8,000 on it when i traded for my 2005 f-150... What was i thinking i hate that truck... But i have a friend that works at the ford dealership in town and they had a mazda 6 come in for an engine replacement.. Blamed it on too harsh driving but who knows...

Ours has been a peach.

Only problem we had was when we took it in for a window rubber replacement recall, the mechanic accidentally cut the rubber trim on our rear passenger door.

Wait. Did you get the Ford 3.0L Duratec V6 or the Mazda 2.3L i-4? If you said the V6, looks like you're stuck with crappy Ford parts and reliability issues. If it's the 2.3L, you're the first person I've ever heard with engine problems?

actually the 3.0 ford is a very reliable engine and one of the better v6's... sadly it is going to be discontinued.
