OK, lets list few of the most imp reasons.

1. The probability of survival of ur race and continuation of ur genes is inversly proportional to the hardships of life. Hence more hard the life lesser r the chances for survival ( or at least thats what is percived) . Lesser the chaces of survival of the babies more number of babis born. In order to survive.

2. Every family or couple tries to minimise the risk of misery in the old age. Hence more kids u have more safe u r.

3. No social security.

4. Ingorance.

It is in human(animal, insect, plant) nature to procreate, but the situation is rather miserable and we need to curb our instinct, to ensure the survival of this planet.

For this society in the form of the institution meant to govern the lands called the government, has to see that this is accomplished. By providing information to the people on the gravity of the situation, by making the means for preventing conception widely available , by withholding social benefits -like reservations, services, government jobs etc from people who refuse to fulfil their obligation to society in reducing the alarming growth in India's and the world population, which is soon going to attain critical proportions
