My friend has a very African name- first middle and last...but since she's in a new school...she changes the spelling of her first name and makes it simple and she lies and says she doesn't have a middle name-- and she uses her Mother's maiden name Smith- :\ I'd kill for her name...so much culture behind it...my middle name is Patrice o.o- I don't think it's right it's like she's trying to erase everything about herself- she lies and says she mixed..b/c she has like a speck of white lol and is very light skin..she doesn't want to be white...she just wants to be mixed or look mixed or w/e- and she keeps trying 2 dig up other countries to represent...egypt cuba 4got the rest lol

She's confused. As she gets older she will learn to appreciate where she comes from. Tell her if she denies her race then she is racist agains herself.

It's silly but there's not much you can do. Hopefully, she'll get over it and learn to appreciate what she's got (although some people never do). 10 years from now and if you're still talking to her, you can remind her about this and she'll be able to laugh about it too.

How old is she? Obviously she's not only ashamed of her culture but ashamed of who she is also. She wants to be accepted for someone she's not.

i dont think it is right mostly because you cant lie about who you really are thats just not right she should just be herself, shes just trying to blend in and you shouldnt lie just to blend in.
