I heard something about Canadian Intelligence...being an oxymoron. But when I learned their entire staff was Boris and Natasha from Potsavania...Who could argue with that!

I don't really remember the anti-Canadian attitudes, maybe they weren't promoted that much by US media. (I also don't live near a border and this makes a difference, I know)
Didn't Canada send troops to Iraq for a while? Perhaps that got the media criticism to abate and helped attitudes.
The US government at the highest levels lied about the intelligence. I happened to follow this closely at the time, and there were many indications in the US media that Iraq did not have WMD, but these stories were often buried in the B sections of the newspapers.Powell gave a convincing presentation to the UN, but even then, stories appeared which questioned his evidence on the aluminum tubes and the aerial photos of lab sites. Many books have appeared on the cherry-picking of intelligence by the US administration.
Clearly being led into a war on the basis of lies is much worse than having inadequate intelligence. One is a mistake, the other is an evil deception that is taking many lives.

I remember vaguely. Since 2001, Canada has suffered many backlashes from Americans due to their government, especially Bush. Unfortunately, the American media is much more bias than Canadian and what they are shown tends to be one sided, causing them to believe what they hear/see. Bush made Americans believe that Canadians were against them.
I do remember that Cretien was still in office, and I think he somewhat resented Bush for always talking negatively about Canada and I think he disliked that Bush was so forceful in having us go to war with them. I think the majority of these politicians know each other, and I think it's like Hollywood where everyone knows a lot about other people in their industry. I think Cretien had the sense to sit back and find out that Hussein and Bin Laden were two totally different people who don't get along (well known middle eastern knowledge), and that Bush had his own reasons for invading Iraq. The fact that Bush went against the UN and pretty much every country on the planet should have spelled it out for Americans.
I don't think our intelliegence agencies had anything to do with it really. I'm sure Cretien was briefed on the situation, but I think he was smart to say that Canada would only participate if something was done through the UN. I do think though that Canadian and American intelligence agencies have generally followed different paths until 2001, but shared information to help each other out. It's kinda like after WWII when a Russian man defected from Russia, and let the Canadian government know that there were communist spies in the country. When Canada told America, they didn't believe it at first. In a way it's the same thing.
I think Bush constantly lies, and I just feel sad when people say they still like him or trust him. I think his blatant disregard for his own citizens and the way he's treated them shows his true character. It's also sad because it was Bush and his government who introduced the color coded terror alert. Anytime he did anything stupid and lost support, the terror level would be raised. This is not speculation on my part, this has been documented. I think many people are so scared by terrorism that they believe there is a hightened security alert and continue to support Bush because his government is 'intercepting' this information and keeping them safe.
I think invading another country without proper evidence is by far the worst thing he could have done. Unfortunately, all governments lie. Some more than others. It depends on how much solitary power the government wants. I support the troops who are there, because they're just doing their job. They never asked to go there, and many of them don't want to be there. I don't agree with Bush sending those men and women out there to be killed over NOTHING. I'm not saying Hussein was a saint, because we all know he's an evil man, but there was no evidence suggesting WMD were in Iraq aside from what Bush said publically.
What does this all mean? It means that followers are sheep, and the leaders are sheep in wolves clothing.

Yes I remember, I also remember half the world telling us the same thing. But as usual the the Bush admin. choose to ignore them all. But of course they already knew all this, but they systematically lied to the American people and unfortunately many of us bought it (not me). We should be ashamed of ourselves for turning our backs on some of our closest allies who were just trying to save us a lot of trouble. And I'm one American who would like to apologize to the world for our actions, and let every one know that not all of us believe in or support what the current regime is doing to the world.

Governments lie for their own interests and do what they want no matter what the people think. The US government knew there were no WMD's in Iraq, they just wanted the oil. Plus a war is very important economically for a country, even if there is no reason behind it, it provides contracts for construction ,weapon making...etc

No. All governments lie all the time. It's their job. Does anyone really know what any "intelligence" organization is even doing, let alone how well?

no because there were weapons of mass destruction, we later on found them, but the american government gave them to them in the first place so no, I think it is all governments lie and cheat and steal, and then lie some more to cover up their lies
