These are two of the colleges I'm thinking about applying to. Which one do you think is better in terms of financial aid, reputation (academic, job placement), campus life, etc.?

If you need to know, I don't live in Virginia and I'll probably major in anthropology, international relations, or something environmental-related.

Which should I apply to? Or do you think they're both really good?

Apply to both if you can. It's worth it to make a special trip and visit the campuses, too. There is no better school than UVA. I went to both Simmons College in Boston and the U of Kansas and I know that UVA's reputation is stellar. What I've heard about the College of W&M is that it's kinda snooty. But that was just one person's opinion. Check out "The Insider's Guide to the Colleges." It gives good overviews of actual campus life at both places and might help in your decision. Good luck!

Go to William and Mary! You'll be much happier there. UVA isn't a bad choice...it's certainly a decent school, but W&M is the better choice for undergraduate education. You'll love your 4 years there and all of the majors you mentioned are rather strong at W&M. This is coming from a recent W&M grad from the Northeast who had a similiar situation. I was incredibly happy with the education and campus life I experienced at William and Mary. On the snooty comment from a fellow commenter, I find that kind of odd. In general, UVA has more of a snooty reputation than W&M...you can see it in-person on the campus and in the guidebooks. Then again, any top notch college is likely to have a fair share of students with inflated egos. W&M students seemed more down to earth than other schools I visited.

They're both top notch colleges. UVA ("Mr. Jefferson's College") is a larger school and has more of the "big school" feel -- sports teams, etc.. W&M has a smaller-campus feel and is in a small city literally across the street from Historic Williamsburg. I think what you need to ask yourself is what kind of college "home" do you want because they're both great academically. If you can, visit both, and see which one "feels" right for you. Your gut feeling will tell you a lot.

Good luck.

A lot of the top students in my hs graduating class went to UVA and love it. It's a fantastic school, especially if you're interested in politics.
