I think man is smart enough not to tackle the issue of fully aware artificial intelligence. At least not for the first couple of centuries. There's just to much risk in things going haywire.

As soon as they get those nanobots up and running, in our blood, in our brains, flying around in the air, watching everything and everyone, then privacy will disappear and we'll be completely under the control of whoever pulls the strings. The only rebellion possible would be suicide. We should stop some research now, it's just too dangerous. No AI, no nanobots, no more surveillance. Science fiction has been warning us of the danger of robots since the beginning.
