I'm a skinhead, and most of these people haven't got any clue what they're talking about.

Skinheads are working class folks who listen to ska, reggae, oi!, and (in the US) hardcore music. We wear certain styles and brands of clothing that are practical but look good - polo or button down shirts, jeans, thin braces, steel-toe boots. We believe in loyalty, brotherhood, working hard, playing hard. We tend to drink a lot and get in fights.

Back in the late 60s in England, some mods picked up the styles being brought in by the black, island immigrants they worked and partied with. Mixed together, it became the skinhead look. They shaved their heads for one, to make it harder for lice to spread (a problem on the docks and in the factories) and two, so there wouldn't be anything to grab during a fight.

Real skinheads aren't racist. There are tons of black, Asian, Latino, etc skinheads - Mexico has a particularly large skinhead scene. How could we be racist when the first real skinhead music was reggae?

In the late 70s, nationalistic/racist English groups started encouraging their young followers to pick up a skinhead style, so they could take advantage of skins' rep for being hard fighters. The media picked up on these so-called "nazi skinheads", and now that's the stereotype. Real skinheads chase nazis out of our scene whenever we can.

Well there are different types of skinheads. One is part of a neo nazi group that professes hate towards nonwhites nonchristians and follows the teachings of Adolf Hitler. The other type of skinhead which is usually found in England is a group of working class men but not racist. Both shave their heads and can wear combat boots and red suspenders.

A skinhead is what society refers to when describing someone who identifies with themself as a white supremacist. The reason they call them skinheads is because most of the members are young males between 18-30 and most shave their heads.

Unfortunately, they see themselves as being superior to all other races and types of individuals and often feel that they have been "wronged" in life, or robbed of a job by a foreigner. Truth be told, most are pathetic and most of them learn their beliefs from their family and friends.

People aren't born with hatred and prejudice - it is learned behavior.

actually there are 2 kinds of skinheads 1st is your traditional raciest skinhead but in a weird flip of this is the s.h.a.r.p skinheads (Skin Head Against Racial Prejudice) for obvious reasons they don't get along very well.

What it normally refers to are members of a branch of the Aryan Brotherhood that shaves their heads as a symbol of membership and solidarity. This is a neo-nazi organization with a core belief in a white master race. Many other beliefs follow that, such as disbeliving the Holocaust, nationalism and racism, and a certain level of victimization and militaristic thinking.

I hate to say this and I'm not sure that it's part of the T.O.S. but the answer about tap dancing is a little misleading. White people tap dance or "clog" where I'm from. It's part of our heritage. Hate spreads hate, not matter what you call yourself. And, BTW, there are "skin heads" in Germany as well. In Berlin, it is extreme.

Just like the black negroes gathered together to seek mutual advantages for the ones who are of the same race as they are, the white people are joinging together for the same thing. Ones who are quite nationalistic on the subject will sometimes shave their heads and wear german army clothing to show similar fellow-feeling for one another of the white race, which we feel is the best of all the races. Who would want to have thick lips and a smashed-in-looking nasal bridge? Who would want hair (fur) like that? Who would want to be good at tap dancing and story telling? Not me, not you either whitey? What if you could get heavy bones like that, and muscular haunches?
