I was considering playing a practical joke on a friend. Lets call that friend "Jesse" (not her real name). I was going to create an e-mail with the subject header "Jesse" and send it to another friend. Only I was going to reverse the recipient box and the subject box so that instead of sending a message to one of my friends entilted "Jesse" I would instead send a message to "Jesse" with my other friend's name in the subject header. It should appear to be an accident.

The body of the e-mail was going to say:

"Dear [friend's name]

I recently asked a question on Yahoo. I asked people what they though about the name "Jesse [plus last name]". Many people thought it was a man's name and other people thought it sounded like a porn star name."

I decided not to send this e-mail because I thought it was too cruel (my friend is sensative about her boyish name).

What do you think?

If you're questioning the humor, it probably ain't a good idea. Unless you really believe the recipient is gonna laugh about this later, it isn't funny.

I think you ought to come up with something more unique. If you want to do something for fun - that she will laugh at....someday...do something that does not attack something that she can not help. If her name is Jesse, that is what it is, and that is a stupid practical joke, not creative at all.
Try something else that is funny. Spend the night at her house and when she is asleep put all of her underwear in the freezer, get her locker number and switch lockers with someone else, take the seat out of her car and hide it, find her cell phone and replace all the pictures with fast food menus or switch the phone numbers around.
A practical joke is something that you BOTH will laugh about one day, not so much harmful or devistating, but irritating at the time.
And think about how you would react if someone did it to you; what comes around goes around.

I think that is particularly lame and rather cruel. A name is something people live with their entire lives, if you destroy her name as it identifies her she could possibly live a very crushed and horrible life. A funny prank is jumping at her in a hall way when she is not ready. Perhaps popping a balloon when she is concentrating on the computer or a book.

Are you mentally retarded?! Well, maybe that's giving you too much credit. Let's try not picking on someone who is already sensitive...It's really wrong to direct the pain at their name which they are already worried about! Wow, talk about a good friend... you make the cut! Yep, I'd CUT you out for sure.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

I don't think it would be too cruel. If she is sensitive about her name being boyish to the extent that others know about it she has probably had worse done.

Well, buddy. You don't want to hurt your friend's feelings.
Unless she is like your best friend, then she might find it funny.
Mine would.
