- The USS Hornet is the only aircraft carrier museum moored in San Francisco Bay. It is an Essex class ship, and served during the battles of Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Okinawa. It is open from 10 AM to 5 PM, daily. Tickets are $14.00 for adults ($12.00 with military ID).
From downtown San Francisco, the Oakland-Alameda ferry or a BART train can take you there (transfer to Bus #63 at the dock or the 12th Street BART station).
- Likewise, the USS Intrepid is the only aircraft carrier museum in New York. Also Essex class, and served in the Marshall Islands and Phillippines before joining the task force at Iwo Jima (alongside the USS Hornet above). It is open 10 AM to 5 PM weekdays, and 10 AM to 6 PM weekends. Tickets cost $16.50 ($12.50 with military ID).
To get there take the MTA subway to the 42nd Street station (transfer to bus # M-42).

There is the USS Hornet in Alameda, CA which is about 20 Minutes away from SF. As far as I know it's the only one in the Bay Area. I've been there just a couple of months ago and it's awesome!!!
Go to http://www.uss-hornet.org/ for more information.
Have fun!!!
