My step son was just telling me that he heard {and believes} that the reason Mr Rogers neighborhood came about was because it was a community service punishment for the crimes he had commited. Have any of you ever heard of such nonsense. I googled it and I can't find ANYTHING to support his claims.

Fred Rogers never went to prison. He never served in the Military. It's all Urban Legend.

Mr. Rodgers and Captain Kangaroo were both heavily decorated military veterans. They both fought in wars as well.

Mr. Rogers wore long sleeves to cover military tattoo's.

Your step son is conning you.
Fred Rogers was a minister, I believe, and first ran his show in Canada.
He never was an ex con.

Perhaps your stepson somehow confused the career fiasco of Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens with Mr. Rogers.

I cried when I read this bio.

100% not true. He seemed a pretty level man. He served his country. He died very painfully in 2002 I believe of cancer.

What?! Are you sure he wasn't talking about Mr. Robinson, the Eddie Murphy parody? That I could believe. :-)

No but he was a war veteran, and killed people. He certainly became more tame.
