Usually, an NFL team has 2-3 QB's. One of the QB is designated as inactive for a game. If and when both QB's of the same team get hurt and are unable to play the rest of the game, they can activate the inactive QB to finish the game. If the last QB gets hurt, a position player takes over, a player with QB experience in college or HS.

Like any business; football teams cultivate quarterbacks...
the standard is 3...
there can be more....

I read some respondant making an insinuation that the league dictates the final number on the roster...
The Vice Prsident of my team works in the NFL as an operatioons officer and has never heard of that ruling. The pro team he works for has 5 quarterbacks...
4 of which are expected to find other teams in up coming seasons.

When the final rosters are set each team will have 3 QB's

1 Starter and 2 backups they will also have another postion player (ex. Running Back, Wide Recevier as an emergency QB in case the 1st 3 get hurt) some teams will carry an extra QB on there practice squad but that person is not eligable to play in a game unless he is added to the active roster.

It depends on how durable the QB is. Normally its 1 starter & 2 back-ups. But nowadays many teams have a fourth guy who was a QB in college and they use him as a WR, or they may even keep a fourth on the practice squad to call him up if needed.

they would have the starter, then 2 backups, and they also have some players on the "practice squad" that just in case sum1 gets hurt, a player (in this case a quarterback) would be pulled into the regular team as a backup.

usually a team carries three qbs. nowadays qbs get hurt so often, that a team really needs to have two really good qbs in case of injury, and the third is almost used as an extreme emergency guy
