Buying my Dyson was the best thing I ever did. i ts amazing, in fact the first time I used it I felt so ashamed at the mountain of dirt that came out of my carpet......and I always vacuumed regularly....
If you get one, pay a little extra and get the turbo head / hepa filter one, worth every penny, cent, drachma etc etc etc
Mine is not an upright one, I haven't seen those, I haven't had to use any backup service, in the three years I've had my cleaner, but any queries I have had, I've emailed the Australian supplier of Dyson, and got very prompt and comprehensive emails back.
They also gave me lots of info on the washine machine, which, unfortunately isn't available here yet..... the backup service here (Australia) appears to be excellent as a neighbor accidently cut the flexible hose on hers, NOT a manufacturing fault, and had a new one mailed to her in just over a week, no charge.....
I'm just hanging for the day the Dyson washing machine makes it here to Australia............

OH MY YES! We got the pet one (purple) at Costco for about $100 less than any other retail. It is the perfect vacuum. Between the 3 or so we had when I was growing up and another 3 since I've been an adult, this vacuum is amazing! We have 3 cats and I'll never use any other vacuum.
The pet one came with several attachments, including one that is a motorized smaller version of the brush on the bottom, it whirls around and you can use it on the stairs, blinds and furniture. It's a dream.
You can see all of the stuff you pick up right there in the cannister and it's so easy to empty. We had a different cannister one that just never picked stuff up like the Dyson. Believe all the commercials, it does what it says it will do.

the dyson animal is an amazing machine; it is simply the best vacuum i have ever used. we have two cats and THICK pile carpet, and the dyson works like magic. Its expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. the animal also features an integral wand that extends at least 12-15 ft and makes stairs and baseboards a breeze.

I think it is worth the money. I love my Dyson. You should try EBAY. They sometimes have refurbished ones that are just as good!

NO-NO-NO- Go to Sears and get a good canister vac. They are WONDERFUL and do all the great things (the canister models) that uprights can NEVER do. Save yourself some good money. The Sears model even has a beater bar for your sofa and car.
