Depends on the slaughterhouse, i think many of them just slit their throats. If you wanna know more about that and other scary but interesting food facts you should pick up the book "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlossher ( i think thats how you spell his last name.) He talks about the corruptness of the fast food industry and about how some of our red food coloring in our foods is made from thousands of crushed carmine bugs. Gross, huh?

Most do it one of two ways.
They herd the cows into a "slaughter house" and then
1) they shoot the cows.
this usually insites unrest among the other cows and is not the ideal method.
2) once the cows are herded in they proceed to the front of the line and then a large metal stake pierces them in the head (above the eyes) this is considered the most humane because the cows never know it's coming. Therefore they have no fear or panic.

with the use of modern technology it would seem that they would have a more humane way of killing these animals, but i think the old tried and true method is still in use. slit there throats or use a sledge hammmer to the head.

In the US a pressurized rod to the forehead. Its fast like a bullet. Works almost every time. Religious nuts halal/ kosher like to cuts throats of animals. Foreign countries don't regulate this stuff.

they stun them with an electric prod, hook a chain around a back leg, hoist 'em up and slit their throats
sounds gruesome, but is actually quite humain

in milwaukee wisconsin they shoot a 22 rifle at point blank into the skull.... the cow drops instantly...that's what my friend said
