Dear libraintiger, sorry to burst your bubble, but you have been mis-informed. You are way behind. I have been a user for over 30 years, I live in California and am a medicinal patient as well as an activist. Every word I have written here is TRUE. Do some real investigating and find out for yourself, don't take my word for it. It has even been determined in a study that UCLA was involved in and supported, entitled "The Jamaican Study" that using the herb is extremely healthy for pregnant and nursing mothers and it DOES EXTEND A PERSON"S LIFE SPAN!!! If you'd like anymore real true facts or links to real evidence supporting the statements I have been bold enough to make here, contact me for more information. Yours truly, <3 HF

PS The Jamaican study stated that these children- of the mothers who were in the study and used marijuana- were actually healthier than non users.

Neuropsychological deficits in long-term frequent cannabis users.Messinis L, Kyprianidou A, Malefaki S, Papathanasopoulos P.
Department of Neurology, University Hospital Patras, Patras, Greece. lambros@hellasnet.gr

The authors examined neuropsychological functioning in 20 long-term (LT), 20 shorter term (ST) heavy frequent cannabis users, and 24 controls after abstinence for > or =24 hours prior to testing. LT users performed significantly worse on verbal memory and psychomotor speed. LT and ST users had a higher proportion of deficits on verbal fluency, verbal memory, attention, and psychomotor speed. Specific cognitive domains appear to deteriorate with increasing years of heavy frequent cannabis use.

Causal association between cannabis and psychosis: examination of the evidence.Arseneault L, Cannon M, Witton J, Murray RM.
MRC Social, Genetic, and Developmental Psychiatry Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, UK. l.arseneault@iop.kcl.ac.uk

BACKGROUND: Controversy remains as to whether cannabis acts as a causal risk factor for schizophrenia or other functional psychotic illnesses. AIMS: To examine critically the evidence that cannabis causes psychosis using established criteria of causality. METHOD: We identified five studies that included a well-defined sample drawn from population-based registers or cohorts and used prospective measures of cannabis use and adult psychosis. RESULTS: On an individual level, cannabis use confers an overall twofold increase in the relative risk for later schizophrenia. At the population level, elimination of cannabis use would reduce the incidence of schizophrenia by approximately 8%, assuming a causal relationship. Cannabis use appears to be neither a sufficient nor a necessary cause for psychosis. It is a component cause, part of a complex constellation of factors leading to psychosis. CONCLUSIONS: Cases of psychotic disorder could be prevented by discouraging cannabis use among vulnerable youths. Research is needed to understand the mechanisms by which cannabis causes psychosis.

Oh yeah! And Pluto was documented as the ninth planet that is until a couple of days ago. Come on people use your common sense. I don't care what anyone says. Your lungs are designed for breathing not inhaling smoke-any kind of smoke. And unless marijuana can cleanse the body I don't see how it is supposed to prevent cancer. That is B.S. The truth of the matter is ALL drugs (OTC, prescription, and recreational) have side effects. Some worse than others. Everyone is different so drugs are going to effect people differently. Some people take care of their bodies better than others so the drug may not show to effect them- YET. I have not met anyone who smokes on the regular who doesn't have issues coping with reality. I have taken care of children whose parents smoke regularly and those children have mental and physical issues too. All that I've seen is that it slows down a fast person, makes a slow person even slower, and just screws with a person's ability to make just decisions. I don't judge people. Some of my friends smoke marijuana and that is their business. I don't smoke therefore, my friends respect me enough not to smoke around me. That stuff stinks. Why do people that smoke M. judge the people who don't?

You did not indicate how the marijuana would be taken, but I will assume that you are referring to inhaling the smoke so the sedating chemicals enter the bloodstream through the lungs.

There is plenty of scientific evidence to show that smoke in the lungs is very harmful, as it interferes with oxygen delivery to the blood. Your vital organs, including the brain, need fresh oxygen to function at there peak. Anything that restricts oxygen delivery throughout the body will make your feel tired, lazy, and lethargic.

No evidence that I have seen shows that it will prolong your life, it may however, reduce pain.

Marijuana? Show me one study where what you say is true. It not only messes up your lungs like cigarettes do, it messes up the neurotransmitters of your brain, which eventually leads to a loss of short-term memory abilities and other cognitive problems. What have you been smoking that makes you believe this garbage?

What if everyone on the planet sat down and passed a fatty? Peace? Understanding? Fellowship? What if we used hemp instead of oil products? Healthy soil? Less pollution? More durable textiles? No Mad Cow Disease? Couldn't have that now could we?

Huh, it extends your life? Hadn't heard that one before but.....I'm with Woody, somebody in Washington needs to legalize this stuff. I know it helps people with cancer and eating disorders (ya' know, late night munchies) and it's sister plant can be grown for making products, like shirts, yarn, etc. That's hemp if anyone is wondering what I'm talking about.

In the 70's the research showed that it destroys your brain cells
faster than if you don't use it. People who smoke it have problems.

OK. They use it treat cancer, not prevent it. Also it is by no means healthy. But alcohol isn't either. I wouldn't mind if it were legal, but it's never going to happen.

I don't know. I know it also adds brain cells, improves your memory, makes you popular with the opposite sex, makes you popular with certain people of the same sex, cleans your lungs, makes your hair smell rugged, and maxes out your sperm count. I mean, like, what's the big deal, like?

its not healthy it doesn't extend your life it impairs you, it can't cure anything but it can be a effective pain killer and it relieves some of the nauseating effects of some cancer treatments, it can cause thinking impairment and lead to depression and withdrawl
