the ability to develop land and be self-sufficient for food. That's what caused civilization and everything that has come from that.

My second choice would be the toilet with running water/sewage systems because that has saved humanity from so many plagues and other diseases and has given us a "clean" place to put our waste. Who really appreciates their toilet, c'mon?!

English is learned in other countries but it must pale in comparison with the Internet already. The greatest achievement that can help facilitate the good of mankind is not in language or technology but in ideas. Ideas like freedom, equality, compassion, and understanding. Humanitarianism itself.

Ritualistic burial. When we first achieved conciousness (a very gradual process) one of the first thigs we did was invent "burial" of our dead and this led to the socialization of humanity and the development of culture.
Culture is the main thing that differentiates us from lower life forms. A close second goes to learning how to fart. Before we mastered that everyone was grumpy!

I think our greatest achievement would be to take control of evolution... everything else we have accomplished till now is superficial compared to it. In short, creation of a being better than us.
I consider the ability to achieve more important than the achievement itself.
