We're on the verge of it. As the dollar continues to fall and the Fed keeps printing more without reporting it (the stopped reporting the M-3 last spring - which tells how much currency is in circulation) inflation is gonna go through the roof. This is disguising the collapse of the real-estate market, although lowered sales are beginning to show through the cracks.

In the meantime, opium production in Afghanistan is up 40% from last year, giving Wall Street a huge boost as 100's of billions of dollars moves through the system. But that can only last so long. Our house of cards is coming down as the foundation for a "glass house" economy - energy - is becoming more difficult to maintain. I'm waiting for a final blow to arrive that will knock out the middle class.

Who knows? With the government's hand in the economy anything is likely. Refering to Kit's answer, if the government didn't cause the Great Depression, who did?

If my understanding is correct. The depression was largely due to public hysteria. People pulling their money out of banks.
Look at the last Stock Market crash. Nobody cared. And it had
little effect. Other than for those who lost money with their
investing.

It wasn't the US Government who caused the depression. Since you probobly wouldn't believe me, or that it may anger some people to tell the truth of who really caused it, why don't you do some very in depth research in to the previous one.
I'm sorry if you don't understand.
Oh, and it's the same people this time around. God forbid it may happen, yes.
