No its not really an attitude.
To be honest when I was 14 (just a month 14!) I was raped.
For the next six months ish I was in denial. I pushed it to the back of my head, and although everyone knew and it went to court I couldn't deal with it. I was just 14 and my way of surviving was to push it away and be in denial, which makes me think it must be a self-defense mechanism.
I mean, no one reinforced it, it just gradually went as I started to become stronger. When its further from the incident people are more able to deal with it as they're distanced from it.
Im not in denial now, but I know it was the only way I could cope, but no one reinforced it. No one could.
Hope this has helped, remember its only one experience though hun x

Most of the time its self-defense, but sometimes it happens to be an attitude.
But the problem is with the judgment of the subject who is facing it with. And its really difficult to read which one is correct in a situation like that.
Yes, your observation on people about reinforcing of ones denial to help one overcome it, is absolutely true.

Each individual human being is chasing a variety of things whilst trying to avoid many other things. And most of us are also interested in getting by with as many good feelings as possible and with as few negative feelings as possible. All of these forces are managed by the human brain, which is constantly making decisions. Now, most of those decisions are unconscious in the sense that we are quite capable of running on automatic meaning that we do almost anything without too much concious thought. We only need to think consciously when we come up against something new. But once the new thing has been understood, then we can go back to being automatic. Now, another thing that human beings do is to create habits and techniques that make it easy for us to pursue our goals whilst dealing with problems. Now, two of those habits or techniques are denial and self-denial. And, mostly, we develop these things or take them on board without realising what we are doing. Sometimes we only get to know these things when they are pointed out to us by other people, and even then, some people's coping mechanisms are so strong that they find ways of not hearing what you are saying or ways of not taking your feedback on board. But all of our habits and techniques serve the purpose of moving us towards our goals. And we may resist re-evaluating our habits and techniques because we feel that these things are essential for reaching out goals.

i believe it is a self-defense mechanism because for one you are protecting your beliefs. also attitudes are positive or negative views of a person, behaviour or event. and yes most people only reinforce ones denial with their
attempts to help one overcome it.

Personally, denial is a self=defence mechanism. A way of hiding ones head in the sand. Never listen to others but go with the heart - not scientific but it works xx Your question suggests to me that you take life too seriously. Good wishes to you

Denial in this context is "unable to accept" or deal with.
People can do more damage trying to help someone.
Your question is actually the answer to itself!!
Its all of those things and more.

I administration the flaws in my existence I easily have administration over and leave to God the flaws i do not and through this form i bypass with the bypass. it really is person-pleasant to do after I easily haven't any interplay with others. putting apart reality and lies turns into more desirable frustrating after I easily ought to handle others, noticeably pals and kin.

SDM, of course.

The catalogue is HUGE and the overall rationalization is baffling to say the least. Never mind all potentially tragic consequences.

All for what ?.

A dubious and shaky peace of mind and self-assurance of a sort.

Graveyards bulging from this pervasive dysfunction.
