The House of Representatives impeached him. That's all they had the power to do. The Senate, which was still overall loyal to the United States refused to remove him from office.

Some of the Representatives who attacked us are still in the House, and this November we will have the chance again to remove them. Don't take these off-year elections lightly: if we don't clean up the House of Representatives they'll do it again the next time we have a good President.

Impeached just means a bunch of axxholes in the republican party decided to make a big show out of embarassing a great President over nothing just for their own selfish hate and political advantage. He never got convicted in the Senate, thats where the actual trial happens and it takes 2/3 vote to convict. The country really disgraced itself with that impeachment.

Impeachment means being brought to trial in the Senate by vote of the house.

or vice versa....i blanking right now.

in order to remove him from office they need a certain majority of votes which the Republicans knew they didn't have so it was all theater......

and yet he held a 70% approval
and yet 37% for W and the trials haven't even begun for a president has commited real crimes against the constitiution.

The right wing and moral Christians worked to impeach Clinton because of something to do with sex. What waste of money and time but it is OK for Bush to lie about the war.

Clinton only faced Impeachment proceeding like Lincoln's Vice Presidents Johnson. Luckily both of these presidents were not found guilty of high crimes or misdemeanors, and removed from office.

Because he went to trial and was aguitted. He knew that he wasn't going to be removed and thats why he went to trial. Nixon resigned because he knew that he was going to be impeeched and removed from office.

Technically he was not fully impeached since the Senate absolved him of any wrongdoing. Senate required at least 60 votes to complete the impeachment and they did not get anywhere near that.

"Clinton got impeached" is the standard slogan raised by republicans who, owing to lack of any other meritorius claim on their side, want to portray liberals as convicts.
