Every other race and religion has suffered. I know the former slaves weren't given what they were promised back then. But that's not our fault, meaning the people who live in the United States today.

Did I say all? No I don't think so. I know not all of them feel that way. Why do some of them or even a small portion of them feel that way? Blacks are still treated like second class citizens, well get in line, how long have women been treated that way?

Black Messiah, the only thing holding back blacks or any other person is themselves. People come from all over to get an education here and they do, I've met a lot of people from Africa in my classes at college. I've been friends with them. You can't let anyone hold you back. You have to at least try to get around the obstables thrown your direction.

classyjazzcr..., First of all, I will never EVER feel guilty for what happened to slaves. I feel bad yes and wish it never happened to them. Secondly, my ancestors never did anything to black people. All of my grandparents are immigrants that came here in the 1950's. And you refered to yourself as a slave. You were never a slave.

scubadiver50704, I'm fed up with political correctness as well. Some blacks, not all, seem very comfortable with bashing whites and saying whatever they want. I'm sick of keeping my mouth shut. I will ask whatever I want.

You've opened a can of worms here. Even with your additional comments.
Black Messiah's full of himself/herself. Read on for my long 2 pennies worth.
Where I live, if you're not black or Mexican/Hispanic/Latino,etc, you get treated like trash by everyone around you. Obviously I'm Caucasian. DUH. I get snubbed at the store, at the nail salon, at the gas station & even fast food. I pulled into McDonald's this morning for breakfast & was greeted in SPANISH. Last time I checked, this was America where we speak ENGLISH. Then at the gas station a few hours later, the black female attendant refused to allow me to pay for my gas until the black people behind me were helped first! She snubbed quite a few people doing that, not just Caucasians, but a few other races that were in line. An hour later at the nail salon, three black women came in AFTER me & this other lady next to me, demanding service before everyone else. Rude? YEP! Guess what. They got serviced ahead of the rest of us too. Not the norm? HA! Spend one week in my city & see how fast it happens to YOU! Move? I wish I could afford to. To keep the peace, I let it go & just grit my teeth in quiet anger. Switch the situation around & you get blacks & Mexicans screaming discrimination, racial profiling, etc. I wish everyone would just get along for once!!!!!!!
I've probably added to the can of worms. Oh well. Life goes on.

1st off, David S, you are an idiot judging the whole black race like that and you are a disgrace to the whole white race. People like you act like that and then wonder why us blacks have some hostility because it seems to me you would be the type of person that would complain about how blacks would take money from the whites, don't have jobs and are lazy, but would be the first one not to hire a black person. I am a very successful young BLACK woman as well as the rest of my family and we did it without "riding on whitey's back" as you said. My uncles work in the government and make decisions for this country...we also have a lot of nurses and doctors in the family that might be taking care of you when you're in your death bed and I bet none of that bu*lshit would be coming out of your mouth. and if anything, we all had to work HARDER to get where we are because of dumb*ss people like you...and yeah, with an attitude like that, you're d*mn right I'd take all your money and do a h*ll of a lot more than that and it has nothin to do with bein lazy. Bet the words lazy would never even be able to be formed out of your mouth again. But I guess that's my ignorant black violent tendencies coming out huh?? (Thought I'd go ahead and get to that before someone else did)
This coming from a bi-racial female...so i guess since you say that females have also been considered by some ignorant people, I'm really screwed then huh lol. I feel that the reason african americans may SEEM like they act like they are owed something is because we still have not been placed as an normal people in society. Yeah slavery was a long time ago, but being that it was so long ago is all the more reason that people should open up their eyes and realize that the world is a big melting pot and before long, we'll ALL be biracial. I'm not saying that everyone in the world is racist and in fact some of the people that are were raised that way. A lot of people are sheltered from the real world and have been taught one thing all of their lives. But let me ask you something not trying to be rude...but are you mixed with any race at all? Because me even being light skinned have been givin sh*t all of my life because my parents were in an interracial relationship and I'm black...Ive been blatently disrespected and called names, getting a job has been an issue sometimes and even people I would think were my friends would slip up sometimes and let their true feelings about black people be known and swear it wasn't anything towards me personally...And have you ever heard of "Driving While Black"?? Yea, that stuff really happens...And until you're put in that position I guess you never really will understand why some african americans may have some hostility because it is an awful thing to go through. It's 2006 and it hasn't gotten any better. It's really sad. But all this is just my opinion

they feel entitled just for the simple fact that we keep feeding them thru our poor excuse of government assistance. I say if your *** don't work then your *** don't eat plain and simple. now if you really need it then I am glad its there. but if you are fully capable of working and just don't want to do the shitty jobs out there then you don't want to eat bad enough. if you want people to start treating you like a first class citizen then act like one. no one owes you nothing. you have as many opportunities as I have. I am a laboror that's just my portion in life but it is what it is. its my fault no one elses. take responsibility for yourself.

It is part of the counter-culture and 'entitlement mentality'. Some people just plain think that some one else (or organization) owes them something (or everything). If they can get away with it, it might be perceived as being better than a 'real job'.
I occasionally watch court TV in the mornings and have noticed how blacks use expressions like 'player' referring to playing one another. When indeed what they are referring to is 'preying' upon each other. It is mostly men playing women. It is a commonly used expression and it seems to be OK with the men.
In fact many seem proud of the fact they are 'players'. To me it indicates some character deficiencies, lack of morales, lessened inititive and possibly low morale and self esteem.
I don't know how many repsonses you will get to your question given our politically correct society today. You are not supposed to ask questions like this nowadays. But, I have had it with political correctness. I think it is ruining the country.

When my people came to this country the only way the could get here was to be indentured servents. From what I have learned this is one step up from a slave. They had to stay with the family or were sold & stayed with that family until the money was paid off. Oh yea I didn't say but if anybody cares, I'm white.
I don't like to hear people use the race thing to get what they want. In the state I'm in it's not blacks that say things like that. All it comes down to is a bunch of cry babies doing what cry babies do.
I wish people would just grow up & work on how to make their life better than what it is. I don't cry about how my people got to this country.
I do like to do things that help others better there life. I don't care what race they are.
We are all of one race. THE HUMAN RACE!!

Tell me this, if a black man promised your great great grandfather a new house, but he never made good on it, all while he enjoyed a huge successful life for himself and his descendants, while your grandfather and his descendants suffered and were poor, and now you find out that one of the black man's descendants is now your black boss, who you feel is giving you a hard time. Would you point this out to your boss if it could be proven, and expect better treatment and equal pay? And wouldn't you think upon finding out about his grandfather's promise and the problems your family had waiting for him to make good on it, wouldn't you expect him to feel bad about it? It's pretty much the same thing. Except in this case, it's real and not imagined, what went on with the slaves and their owners. The slave owners treated us worse than they treated their dogs. They raped the women, and they worked them even when sick. For years. You still don't feel bad everytime you see a black person, because of what your ancestors had done? Then you more than the average white man, should pay even more, because you are just like them. Racist.

I have a masters in political science, African American studies, a bachelors in music. I worked my way through college by doing menial labor that I am sure you would never do. I was the only black kid in my elementary school and I was called every name in the book. Once out of college it took me 2 years to land a decent job. Once I started working the white people told me not to work so hard as I was making them look bad. I have seen people sitting in their cars who lock their doors when they see me approaching. I was attacked and sent to the hospital from a beating by 2 skin heads while I was pumping gas. Since I drive a nice car I get profiled by the police often, pulled over and searched, one time at gun point. My best friend was tazed and murdered by the police because he was pulled over on the side of the street trying to relieve an athsma attack with his inhaler. I had a white girl friend in college. When her father found out he told her he was coming with his gun to shoot the "coon". Most of my life, in order to be succesful I had to kiss my white bosses butts and sometimes that wasnt good enough. I have a history of seeing people, not of color, be promoted over me who were less qualified. I have been fortunate that I have been able to overcome all of that. I now own my own business and am quite succesful. All of that is the fault of the people who live in the US today. My point being with all of this is that not all black people dont have my stubborness and determination to make it despite the odds that are stacked against them.
I do not believe in reparation, even though the US government did do reparation to the Japanese that were interned during WWII. The small number of blacks that are raising their voices for this cause are only trying to find a ray of hope in their dismal lives and is a symbol of the frustration and anger that they feel in the land of milk and honey.

Many african americans have long taken fatalism as a philosophy of life. Recently, the president of the NAACP has spoken out against this perspective and has encouraged african americans to be more positive. In order to be held down there has to be a "man" and anyone who adopts fatalism instantly adopts a "man"

Exactly. My family wasn't ever here during slavery. Besides, a little research shows that the first slaves were white prisoners especially the Irish. Therefore, Irish people deserves reparations first.
