Based upon your question I would only presume that you are referring to the very effeminate gay men.
Well the scenario is this, some of the gay society believed that they are born into the wrong gender. This lead to the feeling that one is actually a woman despite the fact of their physical gender. And as intense feeling of yearning to be a woman, some of the "men" starts to behave as one to the limit as to dress as a woman. After years as a "woman" they would develop yearning to be a physical woman through operations that would removed certain parts of the body and enhance of the facial and chest area. They would then be called a transsexual.
A drag queen is just another term for men who dressed as a woman and they are usually gay. They may have a pair of woman bosom but they did not completely change into a woman as they still retain the male penile.
A gay man is just an ordinary male homosapien whose sexual preference is towards his own.
A cross dresser can be a more diverse term. You see a gay man cross dress in response to desires of being a woman but when it is a straight heterosexual man whom cross dress, I would categorised that as a fetish to satisfy his own sexual desire. So the term Cross dresser can be misleading sometimes.

Gay men don't ever feel like having a sex reassignment operation otherwise they wouldn't be gay men. They'd be transexuals...
Gay men may wish they were straight, but they become "out men" when they accept the fact that they can't change themselves and feel they can stay the way they are without committing suicide.
Becoming a drag queen has been quoted as "gay men with too much fashion sense for one gender" but really it's a matter of wanting to dress as a woman for sport, kicks, fun, and to attract and add some femininity.
The majority of cross-dressers actually happen to otherwise be straight. I'd say the majority are also men wearing women's clothing (or so we notice since most women wear jeans nowadays and t-shirts and still aren't considered cross-dressers despite the fact that they would be not but two decades ago...) and they just get a kick and turn-on from dressing in women's clothing...

1. a gay man doesn't want a sex change operation at all, we are men who love men, not women trapped in a mans body. 2. i love me as i am (other than that 10 pounds!) and have no desire to change. 3. a drag queen is a fantasy escape, and for many a very lucrative career ala rupaul, lady bunny, pussy tourrette, dame edna 4. most cross dressers are heterosexual men, who just like dressing like that, as a gay man i have no idea why, and i don't care as long as it makes you happy do it! i hope this helps clear it up for you. but a word of advice the world can't be pigeon holed so don't try and put labels on everything just keep an open mind and as long as it doesn't hurt you try to be understanding, you'll be surprised how enriching different perspectives can be to your life.

Ok, the truth from an actual person switching sides!
The people that you're talking about aren't gay men. They're in a group collectively refered to as "Transgender." Gay men are physically and mentally male, with a few exceptions that will be covered below.)
1. Someone that undergoes the process of changing their sex, whether it be from male to female OR female to male, is a transsexual. They are mentally one gender, but their physical sex is that of the opposite. They undergo a physical "transition" so that their body and mind match so that they can express their true selves instead of pretending to be someone they're not.
2. No need to cover.
3&4. Some people, both male and female, have that crossgender part of themselves that they express for a variety of reasons. Their sexual preference may be for for either sex. They can be straight men, gay men, bi men, lesbian women, straight women, or bi women.
And since I'm giving a primer on the trangender community I can't forget the genderqueer people. Genderqueer people have an identity that is neither completely male or completely female. Some are also people that choose not to label themselves and do whatever pleases them, regaurdless of whether it crosses stereotypical gender roles.

None of these are necessarily related.
One has a sex change operation when one is certain that one's physical sex has nothing to do with one's identified sex.
Gay men like straight men are who they are
Drag is an honourable profession that doesn't require the queen to be gay
most cross-dressers are straight. Who can explain why? Why do women wear skirts and dresses (and trousers)?

Sadly, this question a much more complex than I think you're prepaired for. As your first answerer has already said, not all of those are related. Many are simply stereotypes and misunderstanding. If you would like to discuss this further, I'd be more than happy to email with you over these.
I've worked as a councelor with a big city GLBT community center for a number of years. I, myself, am a lesbian in more regards, but again...it's simply a lable...not everyone fits lables perfectly.

people who have a sex change operation feel that they are female and are trapped in a man's body, therefore, they're not gay.
Gay men usually stay the way they are
Some like to dress as a woman because they like the feel of silk, for example: panties, bras, pantyhose.
Not all crossdressesrs are gay. There are straight men that like the feel of panties and bras, silk, softness of a female clothing.

Are you for real?
Gay men are not women trapped in men's bodies, don't want to dress in women's clothes or be a drag queen.
Stop perpetuating and spreading these ignorant myths.
Gay men are men, that's all
