Good god, no!
No professor could or would expect students to have the books the first day. How could you have read anything in them when you haven't gotten the syllabus to see what the first reading will be? How do you even know what the final book list is?
On the first day, you'll get your syllabus, and find out what the books are. Then, get them fast.
DO bring a notebook (to take notes), a folder(for handouts, including the syllabi you'll receive), and a pen to each class.

You can if you want usually what I do is I go through the first day of my class to see if I like the class and the professor before I go to get my books. A notebook is fine and good luck in school it's a piece of cake.

take all the resources you need. Books, writing implements and notebooks as well. You never know what the teacher will do and either way why take the chance. The negatives of leaving the books are outweighed by the positives of bringing them with you.

I didn't even buy my books until after getting the syllabus. Sometimes you learn you don't needs the book at all. That used to make me so mad. If you have your books, bring them, but lots of people won't even have their yet so you probably won't use it.

yes do. You never know what the teacher will do. It's not going to be like highschool where you get to know eachother and fill out info sheets. You usually start learning from day 1.

I would. If you don't need them you can take them back home, but if he refers to certain portions you will be ready. You will learn soon enough if they are needed in class or not. I took classes where they were never used and I took classes where they were ALWAYS used.

no. just bring a notebook to take notes...however, some classes have their handouts bound ahead of time...if u have one of those, then u need to bring that to take notes on. (just textbooks r not necessary to take to class.)
