My '97 Chevy Venture blows a 25A fuse when I turn on the wipers. There's nothing else on that circuit besides the wipers. I just had a head gasket replaced a few days ago. I know it's very tight under the hood, so is it possible (probable?) that the mechanic screwed up my wipers? The timing seems a little funny. The wipers worked fine before the head gasket repair.

For what it's worth, the wipers would work for a short period of time after I replaced the fuse. It seems like the fuse would blow when the wipers were set to intermittent. But now the fuse blows as soon as the ignition switch is set to the "On" position, so I can't really give any more info.

Any ideas?

There was a GM 'program' for faulty wiper motors years ago. Check: NHTSA.gov/cars/problems
You may be able to get some assistance on this one from GM.

The head gasket repair must have pinched a wire somewhere and caused a short. That is the only reason I can think of that would trip fuses. A 25A fuse should be fine in a minivan. So I would say that the mechanic didn't "screw up" the wipers, but may have damaged a sensor or wire. If you trust that mechanic, go back to him and have him run a electrical systems check. If not, go to a reputable place, and send the original mechanic the bill. Auto Zone or places like that may even be able to test it for you.

maybe the mechanic didnt do anything wrong and your wipers devolped a short , your wiper motor might be pulling to many amps , maybe a rat got into the wiring loom and chewed a wire , maybe it just took a dive , anyhow have it checked out , but you cant send the bill to the original mechanic unless you can prove it was something he did, and 2 he has what is called the first right of repair if he did damage something .

per chance only a nasty connection. attempt disconnecting and reconnecting the wiper motor ability connections less than the hood some circumstances. If that dosen't artwork, the the wiper motor is per chance going undesirable and is drawing too a lot contemporary.
