I sometimes answer with a question if the asker has no idea what they are talking about.

I think that answering a question with a question can be a good way of providing more insight or thought - and I like to think. People don't do enough of it anymore - it is too rare. Everything is too easy - there is no thought, no work, no effort in things anymore - a click of a button, text, send, search - everything is way too easy. And all of this exploded within the last 10 years. It is unbelievable. It really is.
Anyway, the second part of your answer/question didn't make sense to me- let me try again....oh ok got it. Most answers - on here at least are opinions and since most people are trying to earn points, I am sure they want theirs to be picked so in fact, that does make sense. The questions are normally pretty direct in which way things should go - or that the asker wants them to go and the answerers all take that cue - though I don't. I answer with what I think -- not just what they want to hear.
SO yes, sometimes it is good to answer w/ a question - escpecially when the initial question needs to be questioned. And since most of these are opinion based, it is just a ton of people wondering if the way they feel is right, if it is right for that person, will they pick me - so on here, yes I think you are right about that. It makes sense to me - but not "or" - I think your question should have said "and" instead - because it depends on the question - as some seem to answer themselves along the way...

If you think of answer as the experience of becoming enlightened or arriving at a novel insight then virtually any stimulus gives an answer be it a question or a picture or a song or a sight.
But to answer a question means mechanically to give a specific information that some person seeks without implying some insight on the part of the seeker.

Well... I do that a lot. I then realize that it isn't a good thing. When you do that, you sound sarcastic and uncaring.
If the question is a sincere one, and you know the answer, just answer. Especially if you're mad. Adding remarks to a fight will not help it.
~This comes from the master of sarcasm, and she who's gotten herself in trouble plent of times with it.

Answering with a question is kinda wishy washy and doesn't really answer the first question, it is a "conditional" response.
