I am a firm believer in boosting a childs self-esteem. Children have unconditional love and look to you for your approval. I have 2 children and one is 6 and the other is 9. They strive on helping others and look for some praise. When I want my children to achieve a certain goal I find it to be true that they love charts. They will put their little star by each thing when they accomplish it. They cannot do enough knowing that they are being rewarded. The more I praise the more they want to do. Yes, Yes I am a true believer in building my kids self-esteem.

On the flip side of that coin is that children who are rewarded or praised for doing merely adequate work will not do any better because the message they hear is that adequate is good enough.
Competition can be a motivator for some, others need gold stars, but self satisfaction can also rewarding.
I guess it all depends on who you are trying to please and why.

You really have to learn to be precise in wording your questions. What precisely are you asking? A method to improve the self image of children, a method of evaluating various methods of raising the self image of children, a method to determine whether it is the gold stars or the teachers approval that raises the child's self image. I hate to be pedantic but what method and for what purpose the method will be used should we address.

It's a bit unclear from the question whether it is a causal or correlational design. It's also unclear whether it is a field or quasi-experimental design (which ties into the causal vs. correlational issue as well).
