I wanted to get a checking account because I moved for medical school. I know these banks advertise free checking, but are there hidden fees? I'm getting some checks in the mail, and instead of having it sent to my bank at home, I want to know if I could just create a checking account at one of these places and deposit my checks there without any fees. Also, what's the minimum I must have in my account. Any other information would be greatly appreciated!

Wachovia sucks.....bank of America is total free checking.

Wamu (Washington Mutual) Has a free checking account, you can open it with any amount and there isnt a minimum limit for the account.

Dont trust Washington Mutual..I have a credit card through them and they suck on "fine print" issues..and the customer service people are not very nice...
I can't help you on Wachovia since I've never had an account through them.

I have Washington Mutual. It's completely free. No hidden anything. It's been a very good bank to deal with. Good Luck.

I have both a Wamu & Wachovia checking account.
Wamu has fantastic customer service. I have never regretted using them for primary checking.

wash mut has loose tests, loose ckg. no longer positive what else. yet I easily have economic company of united statesa. and they charged me a OD fee for a examine that cleared at the same time as my husband direct deposit and could no longer opposite it. We by no skill bypass over in our account, yet they nevertheless refused. i imagine they're too vast to care about human beings. yet they're everywhere in the rustic..if tyou go back and forth..if no longer i might want to assert WaMU.

i had an Washington mutual account once, and they never gave me my $900 tax return. i had gotten a letter from the IRS saying that it was deposited into that account, and wamu said it never was. i hate them!
