My guess here is that you're not quite old enough yet or not quite experienced enough yet to make such general assumptions.

I've worked around many blacks, lived around some, got to know the families of many personally and served with many in the Army.

I really don't think blacks are, in general, more easily offended than whites or that white people, in general are more afraid. Try being on patrol in the jungle during wartime and you'll figure this out very quickly. When your buddy is covering your butt you really don't care what color he is.

Black people are offended by specific references, if these come off as being derogatory, to their past or their skin color and they have every right to be. But white people can be just as offended by stereotyping, too.

Maybe its a sort of collective trauma for blacks as a people. A sort of psychological effect in a sort of "mass hysteria" scale.
