Say there is a man named Sam. Sam is single and marries a divorcee named Jane. The divorcee has 3 kids from her previous marriage. Sam and Jane then decided to have a child of their own. How is Sam's first child related to Jane's children from the other marriage? Is there a term for that? And...how common is this for a man to marry a divorcee with kids and then have is OWN kids in America?

Thanks very much!

Half siblings, they share the same mother.

It is extremely common.

The children are call half brothers and sisters since the mother is the common tie. I don't like the half so it would be best just to call them brothers and sisters.

Here in American we have a 65% divorce rate so situations happen all the time like that, here in America. Enjoy your new wife and family.

Very common, half brother/half sister. Just as many American families are like this as not. Good luck
