I always wondered if the whole 6 degrees of seperation thing actually worked. I mean there have been times where I met someone who knew other people I know, BUT I never actually got the chance to meet or know someone who I don't know but would like to know. Like somebody famous or someone who can connect me to a better career..etc. Anyhow, has anyone actually got in touch with a famous person just by word of mouth?

My niece and I have done this to ourselves and yes, I do believe in it. However, we only used it for celebrities. We met a few tv celebs for the past few years so that's why it works, altho' it's not really 6 degrees... some are less but some are more than 6. ;o) However, we haven't done the 6 degrees yet when it comes to people we know (like at work, at school or with friends) but I think it does work.

Also, a constructive criticism here: the proper spelling is sepAration and not sepEration. ;o) A very common mistake. Not to worry, I did that once until my English high school teacher corrected me. ;o)

The idea of six degrees of separation is you could be connected to anyone in the world through six people -- it doesn't just have to be someone famous, and it could be something like so-and-so went to the school that so-and-so went to. I mean it can be a pretty loose connection. However, it does seem possible.

Bacon has a clever observation, and perhaps it applies in the USA or other localities. It seems hard to believe that I am 6 degrees from some guy named mahmood in Afganistan.

I believe in it. In the city I live in, I have yet to meet a person whom I didn't have some link to. And it's not like my city is tiny, there's 1.5 million people in it.
