When they get close to being ripe, cut down on the water. The tomato is expanding more than what its skin will allow. You must have very good soil, and it sounds like you take good care of your plants.

Hi,
This one is easy to answer. It is from too much water. It can happen anytime before the fruit is ripe. Most likely it happens in the late stages of growth.
If you water and then it rains that same week, always pick the fruit as soon as you can. It will ripen in any sunny place inside the house.
For any type of help on food or care for your plants, I use cheapest prices search engine. They also have a lot of consumer reviews that help a lot.
Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Lisa

Regular watering without water logging the plants.be careful not to give to much water after the plants were dehydrated during
a spell of hot weather.Feed only twice ,before planting and then when the fruit set.the best food is 5-10-10 fertiliser

Common causes are overwatering after long period without water, overfeeding, just once every one or two weeks, and if they are in direct sunlight, only water when its cooled down or early morning. Also do not touch the plants without hand washing if you smoke. There is a condition called "catfacing"its from the stem, when temperatures are extreme ie:- hot and cold. There are some varieties that are prone to this, and pitting too.

could be you are over feeding them and they are getting too big. Would be my guess anyway. I water daily, usually early morning and have only fed mine twice this entire season, I think. Once at planting time and once when I needed to add more soil.

Could be too much food. Otherwise the plants are drying out with the once a day watering and then after getting water and too much food they grow too fast.

If you let the ground dry out and then give them a good drink it will make the toms split........(Nothing tastes so good as a home grown tomato)
