This new kid at school seems really nice and I want to be his friend but he's really shy and so am I so we've never really talked except maybe like a couple words. He's in most of my classes but I just want to become friends before it's too late. How can I find a way? What are some good things to say?

There are certain messages which are conveyed through shy glances and need not to be spoken.Use that and let him ask a question. It is his privilege to initiate. He will ,just wait for three days.

He's nervous, so are you and he knows it. Break the ice by saying, "So where are you from? I have been here since ___Year and I have never seen you. He'll answer and you say, So, what do you think so far, He'll answer and you say, well we welcome you and I'd love to get a chance to show you around if you'd like. First, he will feel good that he has a new friend and Second that you are willing to hang out with him. It is never too late to be kind to a new person. Then sit back and see what happens. Good LUck!

He's more nervous than you for sure! He doesn't know anybody...just act confident, walk up to him, and be like, "Hey how's it going? I'm _____. How do you like it here so far?" Ask him where he's from, find out where he lives, talk about the classes you're in together, etc. Conversation should flow easily from any of those subjects.

Trust me on this ... do not by any means force a conversation... if you do you will only repel him...the new kid is probably naturally shy and probably laid back.... dont force anything... instead let things flow if the new kid wants to talk with you then talk but dont force it .. this will only repel that person

well, if ur both shy, i think the best way to approach each other is to get together for a group or partner proj, so u 2 can actually talk to each other discussing both the proj and any conversation u want to start

Ask him how he likes the new school or about his old school and friends, town he lived in things will flow from there. He will appreciate your effort for trying to make him fell welcome, even if you're akward about it. You could also offer to show him the local "hangouts".

I'm sure if you keep trying to talk to him, he'll warm up to you and stop being so quiet. He probably appreciates the fact that you're trying to be his friend. Give it time and just keep the conversations going without making them awkward.

Say hi and ask to take him somewhere on the weekend that you'd think he'd like. He probably would really like that.
