Old Mercedes diesels were not noted for power. They were designed for durability and mileage. With care they can run a million miles or more, just not very quickly especially in hilly terrain.

Sitting for a year without being run is very hard on an engine. Aside from corrosion building up inside the engine, you probably have quite a bit of contamination in the fuel lines and filters, as well as some very stale fuel in it.

Drain the fuel from the tank and fill with fresh diesel fuel. Blow out all the fuel lines (but not the injector lines; any crud in them will kill the injectors) and change all the fuel filters.

I'd also suggest an oil and filter change immediately, and another one in 500 miles or so to get any gunk out of the engine.

To get those old MB automatics to kick down you need to hold the accelerator hard to the floor. There's virtaully no part-throttle kickdown on them for the most part. Changing the trans fluid and filter would be a good idea as well.

Sounds to me like you purchased a real deal. Diesel gas turns into more desirable viscous the longer it sits. If this automobile has been sitting for a lengthy time period, the earrings will be briefly compressed and/or the gas in the tank has change into thicker and more desirable like oil than gas. i propose you run it for some weeks and be conscious if the smoke is going away. My wager is that it likely will once you position clean gas in the tank. you ought to purchase a quart of ask your self oil and positioned it into the crankcase oil it really is an excellent correct cylinder lubricant and would relax those earrings. I nevertheless imagine you purchased very a lot, yet i'd not save the motorized vehicle, factors are way too extreme priced. except you want flushing funds down the lavatory, stunning you promote it for more desirable than you purchased it for and walk away.

Follow all above advice, and realize that the 240D's are very slow by modern standards even when they are in perfect running condition and running on flat ground. These are long-lasting cars, though, probably because so few people have ever had the patients to drive one until it wears out.

With that many miles and years on the vehicle I would do all of the following:

Change the radiator fluid, drain and flush.
Get a new air filter, k & n (part # E-2800).
Get a new oil filter and drain the oil.
Get a new gas filter.
Get new spark plugs and spark plug wires, bosch is good.
Change the transmission fluid, drain and flush.
Clean all battery terminals and get knew battery cabels.

For speed, consider purchasing a supercharger.

Have the transmission serviced!!! It sounds like something minor, but I would have it checked before it becomes a major problem!!
