Well, for me it was the fear of failure. I know it was stupid now, but I really did not want the marriage to fail, and I thought about it long and hard before I filed for divorce. But when he came at me with a butcher knife, I felt like it was time to call it quits. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, but one of the wisest. I went on from there and was single for fourteen years before I met the man I am married to now. No abuse either. We've been married almost 11 years now. Women should wise up. Abusers do not get better, they will promise you the moon, but it is short lived. I like my head where it is thank you, and really prefer not being someone's punching bag!

Because the men they are with beat every last bit of self esteem out of them. The women think hey are worthless and they will never get anyone else. Also, a lot of times women are scared of the man they are with, so they stay because they fear for their life.

Most times abusive men have the woman convinced that they cant do any better. Abusive men do that to brainwash the woman so that she wont leave him. Alot of women stay because of very low self esteem and fearr.

Every one that finds themselves in that situation cannot believe it to begin with.... you never do what you think you would until your faced with it ... I was beat for 12 years and I am a survivor.... people judge you without understanding the individual circumstances... Instead of judging them by saying why do they stay, try to understand that sometimes maybe there is no choices for different reasons until the time is right for leaving, and then praise them for the courage to do so... It is a very frightening and lonely place to be and if no one but myself is proud, it really doesn't matter.....

They think they will change, they remember when times were better when the man wasn't abusive and they think that it is their fault they are abusive.
