Moslem is simply less commonly used, but not a misspelled word!
Anyone cares to add to any other variation of the word Muslim, its spelling.
On the other hand, it's and its are totally 2 different meanings. A classic eg. I quote some fashionable person's question:
"Is it okay for a muslim girl to wear a knee length skirt to school?
it is an all girls school/its the uniform" - in this case, the "its" used should be 'it's'. Grammar is as important as spelling! Perhaps? Or fashion is still more important and arrogantly states oneself, as in the case of a "fashionistaqt's"?

Either spelling is correct. I know some people like to tell others to learn how to spell when their own postings are full of grammar and spelling errors. Ha, ha, "fashionistaqt's" doesn't know the difference between it's and its.
Take it easy, some people can spell but poor with grammar - that makes it fair!

Moslem is an Arabic word. Some languages with different script from our Roman alphabet have an agreed system for transliteration. Chinese has the pinyin system, Russian, Greek and Japanese have similar sounds to ours. But Arabic and Hebrew both have some sounds which are quite unlike any of ours, and there's no agreed way to write their words in the Roman alphabet, so either spelling is OK.

The muslim moslem muslem issue is all moot. The arabic language uses a different alphabet, so translation to english just tries to capture the pronunciation, not the spelling. That's why so may arabic names are spelled in so many ways.

Just use Muslim. It is more commonly used today. A Pakistani would call a Muslim a Musselman. It's all relative to the dialect. The most politically correct way to say it is Muslim.

In some places, the muslims or moslems are referred to by different names, like mosalman, tuluk,(a corruption of Turk), pathan(a sect of Baluchistan), pattani etc. What is in a name? For many, it means a deeply religious and God fearing people, and for many others , this name conjures up terrrorism, unfortunately.

Moslem=Muslim (same as Hezbollah or Hizbollah)
It's= a contraction for "it is"
Its= possessive ("Its tail is usually black")
