I was finishing one of the automatic updates, for Windows XP SP2. I rebooted and as I got to the log in screen... my USB port randomly stopped working. All of the other 5 works, but that one. I didn't change anything to it.

Also, I noticed it worked before the login screen, but it didn't when it reached that screen.

Are you asking some help here or telling us your problem? Do you need solution or views of the reader?

If you wanted to go back to your previous setting of pc before your automatic updates of windows.

Click Start/All Program/Accessories/System Tools/Restore System. Click on Restore system follow the guidance and I am sure your pc will be back to previous setting.

This problem is just one of the great joys of using XP!
Use system restore and go back to right before you updated last time. Wait about a week before updating because MS is constantly patching their screwups. (Other than Microsoft ME, XP is their worse screwup)

Windows updates are usually affects on current configuration. PC also gets slower after installing those updates. I never install updates. Remove them and enjoy your system back.

try updating your drivers for the usb controller, and if you still have five funtional ports then you could learn to live without it.
