I would also add that oppression is a system which maintains antiquated systems of privilege which are particularly limiting for certain groups and individuals.
Even though slavery has not existed here for awhile, simply removing the institution does not remove the stigma. Racist attitudes still exist, both overtly and covertly. Ultimately, the people who created the problem can not be trusted to create the solution. Affirmative Action is hardly a solution-- it's a quick fix. And public attitude that affirmative action is denying them their opportunities in life only proves that 1) people believe that to give someone equal rights implies that they will have to give up their own rights, 2) people are desperate to not give up their own positions of power and privilege, even if they're not sure what that really means.
So given the above, I would say that blacks are definitely still living in oppression. Not all, obviously, but some or even most, because society believes in this concept of meritocracy, whereby "we can oppress you all we want, because if you have true character you'll rise above and be successful", or the whole "rags to riches" stories of horatio alger.

The do have unequal bargaining power, due to Affirmative Action and the political extortion exercised by NAACP. So yeah, they still live in, but not under, oppression. Blacks excell in major league sports and get the big bucks (***** leagues being a thing that's long past). Cosby and Oprah made more money than anyone, except God . You can't convict one of a crime ( OJ, Kobe, King). The have their own Caucus in the Congress, every major city has a black mayor. There's been black Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Advior and Surgeons General. Uh..... "No"?

yes, and whites and many ethic people. Why? Because, I worked at places where English was the language of rules, directions, job safty, job conduct, job training. Then when people didn't understand it in English, I often had to clean up thier work. I wasn't a boss, and because of laws now on the books, I constantly got written up or even suspended for them letting people work who didn't understand the language. I understood, that's why I think in one way or another blacks and wqhites in America are getting the shaft by our government in the workplace. I don't know if that's about oppresion, but, it makes me want to go move to some other contry, not pay taxes, and have a free medical card!

Yes. I am a white guy who has some Black friends, they have been hassled by cops. Consider one TALL Black friend who was held at gunpoint by a cop, forced to lie in the gutter--the cop was looking for a SHORT WHITE suspect! And I was riding with another Black friend, he was doing 5 mph over the posted limit and got pulled over when everybody else was doing at least that fast and a lot, a lot faster. There is some God awful rate of imprisonment for Black young males, it is a miracle any young Black males make it to adult hood without accumulating a police record of some kind. Racism exists, definitely. It is so wrong.

No, officially no.
Some blacks still live in the past, believing the injustice (ages ago) is still responsible for their ill-fate today. Many have moved forward in education, business, career development, etc, & have overcome the inferiority complex with the whites.
The ground is now level & racism is an offence. It's left for everyone to improve himself & demand respect.

All minorities including the blacks are living in some degree of oppression. The term minority by definition is a pejorative.

not only the blacks actually, even asians. though there is more freedom and equlity now. still, as long as there is white superiority (even the UN comprises of 90% whites) there will be a degree of oppression.
the party in power will always control others. in WWII, it was the germans and japanese. now, the americans.
no offence to anyone but those are facts.

Hmmm...
Actually on this one because of my experiences, I'm going to say yes. But like everyone else in life we all have obstacles to overcome. Some have more and some have less than others. But we still most overcome them rather than giving up on ourselves and each other.
