I saw it in the news only that actually drinking of milk never happened. It was because of surface tension that milk used to stick to the idol and go elsewhere. It was on DD only. I dont remember exact reason but had perhaps to do something with surface tension.

What a fascinating question! I've never heard of this practice, but doing something near a god's statue sounds like it's based in religion, so it probably wouldn't have a scientific reason.

Unless there is any scientific reason that certain old or religious custom is harmful,it can be followed.
